An invaluable swatching tool, and a great bargain!
I purchased a set of these 40" long circular needles because there were gaps in my needle collection and I love the magic loop technique for anything for which it can be used (socks, sleeves, hats, mittens etc.). I also prefer knitting sweaters in the round. and you really need a long circ for that.I started off using the US size 3 on some cashmere socks in progress and was not happy with the cords at first. The cord material is VERY flexible and hollow but made of a somewhat "sticky" plastic rather than the harder (and less flexible) cords used on other brands of circs. I used some talcum powder to tone down the cord's grab, and scooting the stitches around the magic loop went better. The cord was also less grabby when I tested the needles with a regular wool yarn and then a cotton yarn. Guess the inexpensive needle and the expensive cashmere yarn were "incompatible"?? Too much of a culture shock? :)I'm now using the size 9s for sweater sleeves using a...

great assortment of needles
This is a get set of needles for the price. The cord is very fexible and there isn't any cord memory. These needles are ideal for anyone who is a fan of the magic circle method.

Great Value!
I ordered these needles around the beginning of August 2010 and have already made two pairs of socks, am working on another pair and planning another pair of socks and a hat for Christmas gifts. This is my first time knitting on DPNs and I am addicted. The bamboo material and the 8inch length is great for me as well because as a beginner I don't have to worry too much about the yarn slipping off the ends, and the length allows me to be able to not just make sock but a hat and other bigger projects. I like that I was able to get so many sizes at one time for a great price, and have had no problems so far with the needles breaking. Over all a great product and I recommend them to anyone whether you've just started knitting or have been at it awhile.

fantastic deal
Everyone starting out in knitting should have at least a set of every size needle to properly gauge work and follow patterns. Being an overly tight knitter, I have made extra trips to the store when starting out because I had the wrong size. With this set, and a few other sets (circs and strait) purchased on Amazon, I at least have the bases covered. These aren't the best needles I've worked with, but 15 pairs for the price of 1 premium pair, it's well worth it. The only complaints I have is they didn't come with a case and the markings could be bolder.

Buy them here for $5 less than the seller's own website!
I thought I was getting a good deal on these for $24.95 with free shipping, buying them from the manufacturer's website. I was surprised to find them here on Amazon for $5 less! Regardless, it is a steal of a deal based on initial quality. They are not as polished as my KA needles are, so the stitches don't slide quite as easily on them. This will be a problem if you are a tight knitter. Its a good way to fill in the oddball sizes in your collection. I agree that the size markings on them are a little light, and it would be nice to have them marked in US sizes too. Am going to work with them on my latest sweater project and will update this review once they've been used for a few hundred rows. Five stars for now, though, based on initial quality.

Good deal - okay quality
The needles are smooth and easy to use. The size markings could be darker. I'm worried they will fade with use. Some of the needles are not completely straight. I don't know if this is normal with bamboo. The caps are glued on the ends.. some of mine are crooked and you can see the glue where they have been put together. However, despite these minor quality issues, the fact that you get each size for a fraction of the cost of (say) Clover needles, is too good to pass up. If you have a favorite size you like working with and want a really nice set of needles - this is not it. Excellent beginner set, though. I would give a four stars but I have too many crooked ends to give it a higher mark.

Maybe the closest to perfect of the interchangable needle kits
I will be honest - this kit is not perfect. But none of the interchangable needle kits you can buy actually are, so I can't really count that against this kit.For the most part, I really like this kit. Here are just a few things it has going for it:- Widely available, and quite affordable if you have a weekly coupon from a certain popular craft store ;-)- Needles are pretty colors which keeps things interesting- Wider range of needle sizes than other kits- Allows you to make a twenty inch circular which, while not as short as the seventeen inch you can make with a certain other kit, is shorter than the twenty-four inch you can make with yet another kit- Metal needles, which I prefer to plastic or wood - all types of yarn slip nice and easy- Nice points, not too sharp and not too dull- Individual pieces can be bought separately- Storage case is compartmentalized well and not too uglyHowever, here is what it...

okay needles, but there is better
I got this set when I first started knitting as that was much easier and cheaper than buying all the straights and circular needles. While it was nice having all the different size needle right there, they would come unscrewed which was annoying and they would disconnect and they stitches would be dropped. I had to check quite frequently that they were not coming unscrewed. I tried knitting with the smallest needles, and the yarn kept getting caught at the connection, because it was wider than the needle. so since we were traveling, we had to stop at a store so I could get dpns of the size I needed instead. I ended up selling these and getting the Denice interchangeable. I like them MUCH better and don't have the same issues.

Economical and simple for beginners.
I bought this set (using a coupon at a craft store website) when I first decided to get into knitting. It serves its purpose well, and has accompanied me through a lot of my early learning. You can use these as straight or circular needles, in all the standard sizes; it really is potentially all you'd need for most projects, but you can order additional cords in larger sizes, extra end caps, and other items you might find helpful if you become more serious about knitting. I think that circular needles are easier to hold than straights and put less weight on your hands as you work-- which is very helpful after a long period of knitting. It is even possible to fudge double-pointed-needle patterns with this set; search knitting video websites for help on how to do that.As you become more serious, though-- dare I call it Knitpicky?-- there'll be things that might lure you away from this, your first set. Many people end up preferring bamboo or wooden or plastic needles,...

Fantastic Needles!
I LOVE this set!! I'm still learning to knit and also bought a bamboo needle, but can't decide which one I prefer. This is a slick needle, but I've had no problems at all learning my stitches with them. I love the colors, they're very well made. No complaints at all!!

Product Description

Silvalume needles have the broadest range within the Susan Bates family of knitting needles. Made of lightweight aluminum, each Silvalume needle undergoes a special anodizing process that etches away all surface impurities. In addition, each needle is heat treated for strength and durability and polished for a velvety smooth finish. Each size is color coded so you can find the size you need at a glance. The knobs feature a no-roll design and the US and metric sizes are clearly printed on the knob. Each gift set contains 3 pair of needles in US sizes 6 (4mm), 7 (4.5mm) and 8 (5mm). Nice set
These are nice needles. The only thing, some types of yarn (for example: LionBrand Home Spun) kind of "sticks" to the needles. Not really a problem, but kind of annoying. These might be good for a beginner, because the chance of the yarn sliding off is pretty slim.

I use 'em so much, I ordered a second set!
I use these needles for almost all of my projects, which is why I'm back to order a second set (too many UFO's on the needles--I ran out!). I started with a Boye Needlemaster, and hated it--the connections gradually came unscrewed, and the cables were stiff. The Denise connections have held fast every time for me, and I find the cables very flexible and easy to work with. I use all types of yarn, and have had no trouble sliding it on the needles and cables. I prefer plastic and wood/bamboo needles over metal, so this set works well for me. My husband finds the clicking sound of metal needles annoying, so he also likes my Denise set. The needle points aren't too sharp for me, and I'm a "pusher" (that is, I press the needle tip with my index fingertip each time I make a stitch).I read that the people who invented the Denise set first invented the Boye Needlemaster, and the Denise set was their second attempt (they corrected the problem of the Boye connections gradually...

I take them everywhere!
I was skeptical about buying these needles at first. I did extensive research online about which interchangeable needle set would be best/have the fewest problems. I tried a couple of other sets with disastrous results and a lot of disappointment. I finally broke down and bought these needles because, at the very least, they seemed to be light and the joins seemed to cause the fewest problems. I am SO glad I took a chance on them because they are wonderful needles. They are very light, feel natural in my hands and the tips are pointy enough to maneuver through the toughest of novelty yarns, but not so much that I feel I will hurt myself when I push them back through the loop to lift it off (a habit I have formed in my knitting). The cords have a nice feel to them and relax relatively quickly once you get going. They do tend to have a little kink in them from their placement in the case, but it is easily remedied by a little bending action where the kink is. Not a big deal at all...

Hated this kit
Different strokes for different folks - a lot of people love this set so I won't just slam it and give it one star. Personally, thought, I hated it.I found yarn did not slide easily on the needles. I had good luck with a pure acrylic yarn but an acrylic/wool blend stuck and was misery to knit with. I found the needles to be too bendy for my liking as well - I prefer the slippery and stiff aspects of metal.I found the cables, while flexible enough, to be thick and also sticky to the yarn.I found the needle points sharper than I like. The smallest needles in this kit is larger then the smallest needles in other kits.I found the case to be junky looking which is not a huge deal but it's nice when things look pretty.Lots of people love these kits and I really wanted to love it, too, but it just wasn't for me. IMO the biggest thing this kit has going for it is the fact that it allows you to make a shorter circular...

BUY Blue Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles Set

Buy Knitting Needles

It would be gimmicky (and not cost efficient) to hand out those knitting needles at conferences or leave them for booksellers (unless they knit, of course. It would be good branding to get buy a handful of custom knitting needles to use as giveaways for contests and promotions. It would be gimmicky to knit at all your events, regardless of the venue, or to only dress in outfits you knit yourself. It would be good branding to do an event with a yarn store or run a knitting workshop in conjunction with the book launch. Branding has everything to do with how you dress, how you speak and what you speak about, and any other aspect of your public persona. Let’s say you write knitting mysteries. As a writer, you want to let the work speak for itself, but branding helps the readers get a sense of what to expect from your work. There is a fine line between branding and gimmick, and there are plenty of authors straddling that line. Do I love it when authors of cooking mysteries dress up as chefs or dark fantasy writers dress in goth attire.

This week, in Part Four of the Interchangeable Knitting Needle Guide I will be talking about the Knitter's Pride and KnitPicks Interchangeable Knitting Needle Try-it sets. There is another major difference between the Knit Picks Options and Knitter's Pride sets and it's a big deal: the Knit Picks Options do not have the sizes printed on the needles, or the cord length printed on the cords. Before you make a big investment on a full set of interchangeable knitting needles, you can buy try-it sets to see which kind of needles will work best for you. I started out by purchasing a fixed circular harmony needle and loved it. Over the next couple of years I purchased the harmony option needles along with dpns, fixed circulars and the short straight needle set. The Knitter's Pride set comes with a little plastic holder for your trial needles and there's enough room to hold both trial sets, which is great because the Knit Picks set does not come with a holder. This makes finding the needle you want to be slightly more difficult than with the Knitter's Pride needles, which have the sizes printed on them. The Knit Picks Options feature a multi-colored paint job, while the Knitter's Pride needles are each color coded according to size. I like the feel of the needles and how the yarns slide over the needles. There's one other variance between the Knit Picks Options and the Knitter's Pride wood needles. If trying out the acrylic needles is important to you, you should get the Knit Picks Options trial set. With the two sets, I may have an abundance of size 6, 7, and 8 knitting needles, but those are the sizes I use the most anyway.
